UWF Libraries online digital library collections are relatively new and in exciting stages of development. The oldest collection, The Bell Photo History Archive or West Florida Photohistory Collection , consists of approximately 20358 images with accompanying metadata of West Florida history 1911-1949.
This application is hosted through a digital application called Digitool and is an important part of the larger Florida State University Libraries PALMM project (Publication of Archival Library and Museum Materials) which includes digitized historical source material and virtual collections for all areas of Florida.

A second more recent University of West Florida 40th Anniversary Image Archive (2007) consists of approximately 300 images from the past 40 years of the University’s history as an interactive organic digital archive. This application is an opensource Weblog optimized to operate as an interactive image archive. Information on the technological background for this project is available here.
A third collection, THE UWF Archives Special Collections Holdings Databases consists of searchable finding aids called “EAD’s”(Encoded Archival Documents) of the 700 specialized individual historical collections making up the West Florida Archives and Special Collections. This digital collection was done through the Open Source digital archives product, Archon, an acronym for Archives Online.
The University of West Florida is also part of the Florida Heritage Digital Collection and these artifacts (20133 artifacts) and collections can be found by searching through the library catalog or Archives Florida.
More information on some of these larger digitization efforts can be found on UWF Libraries Dept of Digital and Learning Technologies homepage.

The Emerald Coast Campus Library would like to honor staff member Christie Dunn. Christie is a OWCCS and UWF student worker who expects to graduate in the fall with a B.S.BA in Professional Accountancy. Writes library director Dr. Lois Gilmer, “Christie is a great worker who goes the extra mile to provide excellent service at the ECC Library. Recently UWF History Dept. Chair Dr. Jay Clune needed to confirm historical dates on some research. Christie was not only able to confirm dates but followed up Clune’s request with faxed pages regarding needed specifics immediately”. As part of the ECC staff recognition policy, ECC will be hosting a party in honor of Christy’s past work and a copy of a commendation letter regarding Christie’s exemplary service is posted in the library. Keep up the great work, Christy. UWF ECC libraries are very proud of you!

The Emerald Coast Libraries would like to announce the retirement of ECC Library director, Dr. Lois Gilmer. Dr. Gilmer has been the Emerald Coast Libraries library’s champion for the past 30 years. The staff will miss Dr. Gilmer’s smiling face and sunny disposition but know she will be kept busy with her husband and family and some long anticipated travelling. The UWF and ECC family wish Lois the best and hope that this next chapter will be as much of a pleasure as it has been working under her guidance at ECC. Dr. Gilmer’s replacement has large shoes to fill and Paul Williford has been selected to fill this important role. Paul was formerly the Information Services Librarian, Rhodes College, Memphis Tennessee and previously worked as library faculty at UWF’s John. C. Pace Library. UWF and ECC look forward to Paul’s arrival and wish Lois the best for a wonderful retirement!
