Ray Malinowski
The Special Collections Department in the John C. Pace Library at the University of West Florida has acquired the photographic archives of the Ray Malinowski Studio. The collection of approximately 50,000 photographs covers Pensacola and adjacent regions from the mid-1960s through 2000 and includes aerial photographs as well as photographs of prominent individuals, businesses, real estate developments, buildings, streets and related views of interest in Pensacola and the West Florida region.

Happy Holidays from all the faculty and staff here at the University of West Florida Libraries! UWF Libraries will be closed from December 24 to January 4, 2009 but be sure and check out the collection of Louisville & Nashville magazines dated from 1911 to the 1940s in John C. Pace Library Special Collections when the libraries reopen on January 5, 2009. 

Wishing everyone in the UWF community a safe and peaceful holidays and prosperous new year for 2009.  See you in the new year!

John Lautner’s Pensacola House

John Lautner (1911-1994) was a foremost American architect who got his training with Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesen and is considered one of Wright’s Foremost successful graduates.  His Chemosphere house in Los Angelese was used in the film Body Double and his Palm Springs Elrod Resident was used in the 1971 James Bond film, Diamonds are Forever.  He designed the Bob Hope residence and his Malibu Carbon Beach home, owned by Courtney Cox, sold a few years ago for $33.5 million.

A glass cabinet exhibit adjacent to the library elevators highlights items from the Peruvian Collections held by the Special Collections Department, John C. Pace Library.   Although our collections emphasize West Florida, the University and Pensacola have historic ties with Peru, and the Department holds an extensive book collection of early Peruvian history.

Special Collection’s Christmas 2008 Exhibit

Christmas Exhibit 2008 The Special Collections’ Christmas 2008 exhibit features colorful holiday magazine covers from 1911-1940s. The exhibit, located on the first floor hallway by the elevators, will be available through January 7. Be sure to note two covers where one painter in 1929 may have plagiarized another cover from 1911. How many similarities do you spot? Happy Holidays from the John C. Pace Library!
